28 Day Detox- Day 21

Well I have made it to Day 21!! 7 Days to go! Like I have said in my previous posts eating healthy has not
been an issue for the past three weeks. Although I may have dealt with some stomach issues, which seem to have subsided,  I have enjoyed sticking to more of a meal plan and tracking what I put into my mouth. It is very easy to get off track in life when it comes to healthy living so it is important to check in with yourself every so often just to possibly eliminate any of the "unhealthy" habits that may have crept into your life over time.

I know my biggest issue was chocolate. WHOSE ISN'T? I recently tested myself with a couple chocolate chips that were in one of the Healthy Edge approved snacks I made for my kids. I took a bite and found it too sweet and pulled the rest out! Funny how that happens! I am not saying that I will always stay away from chocolate from now on, but I know that I will not be over indulging!

I have been doing well with avoiding gluten since my last post. It hasn't been a big challenge, but I do realize how much I take for granted when it comes to gluten free items. Almost everything packaged has gluten! This includes chicken broth, breads, flour, and most cereals! Even if it says gluten free, there are usually other items in the product that I do not want to put into my body. Just because it says gluten free DOES NOT mean it is healthy! Even when I was making snacks for my kids I made sure there was no gluten so I could have it too!

In this post there are a bunch of pictures of salads that I have eaten over the past three weeks. This is just to show you the variety of things that can be put into a salad. From greens, to fruits, to quinoa. Many are similar, but I can guarantee that none are the same!

One thing I have really been more aware of is selecting organic produce. It is amazing how much better they taste! I was shocked when I purchased Romaine Lettuce. I cleaned and cut it up, then my taste buds melted when I put it in my mouth! Same as the peppers, they seemed much sweeter. I am so looking forward to open market season!

My new favourite thing to replace the sweet craving for chocolate is organic raisins and/or cranberries! I usually have them in my salads, in my oatmeal, with my nuts. Just a small amount does the trick!

Yes, buying organic is usually more expensive. However, I am less likely to let it go to waste! If more people bought organic then maybe the industry would turn around a little. Can you imagine how much healthier we would all be if we could eliminate all the nasty pesticides!
